Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"The Irish church had developed its own distinctive usages in the two centuries after St. Patrick introduced Christianity, which Aidan, the first bishop of Lindisfarne, had brought to Northumbria from Iona. . . . Bede gives an account of the synod in his Ecclesiastical History of 731. . . . This important decision placed the Northumbrian church directly under the authority of the pope in Rome and brought it closer to Gaul and Italy." [1001 Days]
