Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"Built between 1242 and 1248 in Paris, and one of the glories of the French Gothic style of architecture, the Sainte-Chapelle, lit by glorious stained -glass windows and with every inch of its interior stonework brightly painted and encrusted with jewels, was designed as a reliquary, the highly decorated container for a relic. . . . Badly damaged in the French Revolution, the Sainte-Chapelle was restored in 1846 and the relics that it was built for are now in the nearby cathedral of Notre Dame." [1001 Days]
