"It is not certain precisely how many voyages Vespucci undertook, but his explorations covered the greater part of the Atlantic coast of South America down to the Patagonian coast. . . . Authorship of the published missives is disputed, but Vespucci certainly made the voyages and his name was attached to accounts of them--accounts that were later taken up by cartographer Martin Waldseemuller.
