Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
Christopher Wren was a contemporary of Isaac Newton, Robert Hook, Robert Boyle, Thomas Hobbes, and Henry Purcell. He was a scientist, mathematician, and astronomer. His masterpiece was St. Paul's Cathedral. This cathedral had burned down during the Great Fire of 1666. The cathedral took 36 years to complete. "Wren survived until 1723--among his later work, carried out for William and Mary, were designs for Kensington Palace and an extension of Hampton court. His last major project was Greenwich Hospital." [1001 Days]
